American online businesses experienced historic revenues during the 2011 holiday season, but the United States isn't the only nation poised to see increased ecommerce sales this year.
According to a recent Practical Ecommerce report, online retailers are thriving in the United Kingdom, as the nation accounted for 30 percent of all European internet sales last year. The report said U.S.-based ecommerce companies would be wise to consider entering the British market, but there's several factors they must consider.
American businesses must create a U.K. version of their site to successfully transition their products and services to the overseas marketplace, complete with British currency, shipping options and a ".co.uk" web domain, the source said. Meanwhile, online retailers can use Google AdWords to target pay-per-click advertisements specifically to the U.K.
According to a recent survey of British businesses, 73 percent expected growth in online sales this year.
