Many online retailers have invested in mobile shopping applications, but according to a recent survey, consumers rather purchase products from ecommerce sites via PCs, laptops and mobile web browsers.

Zmags, a provider of mobile and social merchandising, recently revealed that 87 percent of consumers prefer shopping on ecommerce sites, while only 4 percent favor mobile applications on smartphones or tablets.

"The study clearly demonstrates that mobile and tablet apps, on their own, are just not meeting connected consumers' browsing and purchasing needs in an increasingly complex retail landscape - and that browser-based commerce is their preference." said W. Sean Ford, COO and CMO of Zmags.

The report also found that shoppers, especially tablet owners, increasingly access retailers' Facebook pages. Eighty percent of respondents said they're active Facebook users, while 34 percent of tablet owners complete shopping activities on a company's Facebook page.
