Online shopping is off to a historic beginning this holiday season, as consumers are spending more and businesses have looked to ecommerce solutions to increase sales.

According to a survey by Shop.org, 78.4 percent of retailers planned on implementing Cyber Monday discounts to accommodate a rising percentage of Americans who shop and research products online.

"In addition to putting the finishing touches on their websites, retailers have invested heavily in mobile apps and related content as the appetite for... shopping through smartphones and tablets continues to rise," said Vicki Cantrell, executive director of Shop.org. "Consumers have done their research and are ready to make the most of all the channels retailers offer this year, whether that’s a website or a smartphone or tablet device."

During the past two years, Americans planning to use mobile devices for Cyber Monday shopping spiked from 3.8 percent in 2009 to 14.5 percent in 2011, the report said, increasing the urgency for retailers to adopt websites and applications with mobile credit card processing.

IP Commerce's mobile solution bundle enables software companies and developers to integrate card payment processing, wallet services, ACH processing and partner authorization into customized commerce solutions for retailers.
